I was so anxious about getting therapy for so many years until I found Find Reason Therapy. It has completely changed my outlook on therapy and has had the biggest, positive impact on my life. I now tell all my friends and family to do it too as I just really don’t know how I ever did life or how anyone does life without it! It is so helpful and has changed my whole life. I really look forward to it now and always can’t wait till my next appointment. The whole team at Find Reason therapy are so warm and kind I actually don’t think I would be able to be doing life without it!!

Looking for a Mandarin or Cantonese speaking therapist?

Find someone who can understand more than the words you’re saying.

You may have been thinking about therapy for some time, but finding someone who feels like the right fit can be difficult.

You might want to talk about:

  • How you feel about yourself or never feeling good enough
  • Anxiety, stress or emotional overwhelm
  • Difficulties within your relationships
  • Family expectations or conflict
  • People-pleasing and putting everyone else first
  • Boundaries and expressing what you need
  • Trauma or difficult experiences from your past
  • Migration, identity or living between different cultures
  • Feeling disconnected, stuck or unsure of yourself

You don’t need to know exactly what the problem is before coming to therapy.

Sometimes you simply know that something doesn’t feel right anymore.

Therapy in the language that feels natural to you

There can be experiences that are difficult to translate.

A feeling might make perfect sense in Cantonese but feel different when you try to explain it in English. A conversation with your parents might carry cultural meaning that takes much longer to explain than the conversation itself.

And some experiences are simply easier to talk about in the language in which you lived them.

Therapy with Jenny can take place in Mandarin, Cantonese, Teochew, English, or a combination of languages depending on what feels most natural for you.

The goal isn’t simply to speak the same language.

It’s to create a space where you can spend less time translating yourself and more time understanding yourself.

Our Therapy Approach:
Everything comes back to how we feel about ourselves
and how we show up in relationships.

At Find Reason Therapy, self-worth sits at the centre of our work.

The way we see ourselves can shape what we tolerate, how easily we express our needs, the relationships we choose, how we respond to conflict, how much responsibility we take for other people and whether we feel able to trust ourselves.

Sometimes these patterns are easy to recognise.

Other times you might know something keeps happening without understanding why.

Therapy gives us somewhere to slow this down and begin understanding the experiences, relationships, beliefs and emotional wounds that have shaped the way you relate to yourself and the people around you.

From there, we can begin building something different.

Meet Your Mandarin & Cantonese Speaking Therapist

Jenny Lian

Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Jenny is a psychotherapist and counsellor who supports people to feel better about themselves and to build more honest, connected relationships. She offers therapy in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Teochew, so you can explore what matters in the language that feels most natural to you.

Having lived in both Asia and Australia, Jenny understands how migration, family expectations and living between cultures can shape how we see ourselves and how we show up with the people we love. These experiences can bring pressure, shame and a feeling of never being enough, and she holds space for them with respect and without judgement. Jenny has years of experience as a medical interpreter in the health and medical field, which has taught her to listen closely and to sit with difficult emotions with care and sensitivity.

Jenny’s approach is person-centred, trauma-informed and strengths-based. She believe change happens when you feel safe, respected and truly heard, and she works alongside you to explore your relationships, stressors, and any other life challenges you’re facing, while building on the strengths and resilience you already have.

What Jenny Can Support You With:

Therapy is different for everyone, but you may want support with:

Self-Worth
Understanding the beliefs and experiences that have shaped how you see yourself and developing a stronger sense of your own worth.

Relationships
Understanding recurring patterns in romantic, family and other important relationships.

Family Expectations
Exploring the tension that can exist between your own needs, values and identity and what may be expected of you.

Boundaries
Learning to recognise your needs, communicate them and create healthier boundaries with others.

People-Pleasing & Codependency
Understanding why it can feel so difficult to disappoint someone, say no or stop taking responsibility for how other people feel.

Anxiety & Emotional Overwhelm
Developing a greater understanding of what is happening underneath anxiety, stress and difficult emotions.

Trauma & Difficult Past Experiences
Exploring the experiences that continue to influence how you feel, respond and relate today at a pace that feels safe and appropriate.

Identity & Living Between Cultures
Making space for the complexity of migration, belonging, family, culture and becoming your own person.

You Don't Have to Know Where to Start
  • You might have a very clear reason for coming to therapy.Or you might simply know you’re tired of feeling the way you’ve been feeling. Both are enough. You don’t need to arrive knowing what needs to change or having the right words to explain everything.Therapy can be the place where we begin figuring that out together.
